Shadow Play

These terracotta pots were fun to paint.  The shadows are a bit deeper in the painting.  I couldn't quite match the colour in my program, but you get the idea.  It reminds me of a hot summer day, with a bit of green relief. SOLD

Songbird Special

I took this photo in a friend's yard last year, and had great fun painting it.  I love bright, happy colours.  Reminds me of summer.  I'm still waiting for spring!

Red, White and Blue

The seeds I planted last week are breaking through the soil, but spring and summer seem a long way off, yet. It's still cool in the Pacific Northwest.  Figured painting a few flowers would brighten the day.  Worked for me :} SOLD

Spring Rush

I find moving water quite exciting to paint.  Rocks, too, for that matter.  You can actually work a lot of colour into water, particularly the shady areas.

Saturday, 7 April 2012

Took a photo of this little girl on Davis Bay beach.  Davis Bay has the nicest beach around - actual sand instead of rocks.  This little girl had her eye fixed on this big old seagull heading her way.  Always a lot of activity there, and lots of good poses to capture.  SOLD

Perched

I really enjoy painting birds.  Wrens are such cocky little guys.  After a cold, wet winter, it's nice to hear the birds chirping outside.  Maybe, just maybe, we've got Spring.  SOLD

Tranquil Afternoon

This is a really neat old wooden boat I took a picture of in Gibsons Harbour.  I thought it would be interesting to paint on an old bumpy canvas...what I didn't realize is that boats have lots of straight lines, and straight lines don't work really well on a bumpy surface.  Anyway, it was fun and just a little challenging.   Love the red and green...the little yellow sailboat and the blue bumper don't hurt, either.  Bright and cheery, just the way I like them.  SOLD

Ferncliff Illusion

Landscapes are fun, and heaven knows we have enough beauty in B.C. to choose from.  But, during the rainy season and with dreary winter edging into spring, my first love is still painting flowers.  I have a nice selection of dahlias in the garden that friends have shared with me, or that I got at Dahlias Galore, which is an amazing place to visit during dahlia season.  I've taken a ton of pictures of their flowers....rows and rows of glorious dahlias.  This year I must sneak another plant or two into my garden. SOLD.

Happy Valentine's Day

I'm off to Saskatoon for a few weeks.  Will post more when I return.

Lilac Wine

Lilacs are another of my favorite flowers.  I've been listening to the new Susan Boyle CD, and there's a lovely version of  'Lilac Wine'...hence, the title.

Cat and Mouse

A little game of cat and mouse.  The kitty is fast, but the mouse is faster.  Good thing, or it might be a different tail.  SOLD

Sunny Afternoon

As a kid I loved horses.  Still do.  I remember taking the bus from one end of Saskatoon to the other, just to get to a stable.  It took a long time, but the horses were worth it.  This picture was taken near Abbotsford, on a warm, sunny afternoon. SOLD

Aw, Nuts

I don't paint a lot of watercolour, but occasionally get in the mood.  This little guy was definitely fun to paint.  The background looks a little pinkish, but isn't really.  He and I have something in common - we both love hazelnuts! SOLD

Reaching Out

This is my latest arbutus painting.  These trees are such fun to paint, and paint them, I do :]  SOLD

Wednesday, 11 January 2012

Lemon Sky

Lately, I'm getting bolder with my skies...painting on a smaller surface gives you the ability to take a few chances.  It's certainly giving me more confidence with colour in larger paintings.  SOLD

Ring In Spring

Finally got all the paintings together for the new show that starts tomorrow.  Now I can concentrate on some of the larger paintings I've been itching to paint.

Bald Eagle

Majestic birds, and we have a lot in our area.  Sometimes they swoop so low over the yard, I worry about our cat.  Earlier this year an eagle swooped up a mongrel toy poodle in Sechelt, but luckily dropped it on the grounds of a nursing home.  The puppy is fine now, and has a new home.  They call her 'Miracle May".  SOLD
My computer crashed :[  so I haven't been able to post any new paintings.  I have a new laptop, so hopefully I'll be back on track and posting soon.   Question - why on earth do they have to change the placement of keys?   My cap key is now my \slash key, my delete key is now pg dn. Very frustrating.

Reflections

I love painting water.  I think the blues and oranges in the painting work quite well together.  SOLD

Gibsons Happy Hour

I had a lot of fun with this.    It's such a happy, cheerful painting.  I love to paint something that makes people happy.  SOLD

What A Rush

I was really excited to find this creek not too far from home.  I took a ton of pictures, and hope to paint a couple of large pieces from the photos.

Garden Delights

Another painting of my favourite flowers - roses.  Amazing how something so pretty can actually be quite vicious.  I had a neighbour once who said she would take clippers and cut every single thorn from her rose bushes.  I can't imagine how long that would have taken her.  Think I'd rather take my chances with the thorns!

Hillside Colour

Here is another in a little series of local scenes.  Well, I may have taken artistic license with all of them :}  SOLD

Sunday, 13 November 2011

Above The Clouds

This is the last of the small paintings for our Christmas Show.  Might just switch to something floral for a change.

Thursday, 10 November 2011

Timberline

You've got to love British Columbia.  You've got your mountains, ocean, hillsides and streams.  And today we've got glorious sunshine!

Evening Show

Here is another little painting for our Christmas Show.  My camera just isn't picking up all the subtle colours in the Northern lights, or in the trees.  I'll have to find a better place to take my photos.  SOLD

Last Call

Here's another little local scene.  These are rather fun to paint.  A dear friend gave me a Tom Thomson book for my birthday.  He's my absolute favourite from the Group of Seven.  Very inspiring. SOLD

Frosty Morning

I'm switching to some fun, 8x8" landscapes.  We have a Christmas Show at the gallery in a couple of weeks. Hard to think about Christmas when I'm still picking dahlias outside.  But, it definitely is on its way.

Beach Access

This is a lovely, old gnarled cedar in Roberts Creek.  You can access the beach, but you have to fight your way through brambles, roots and branches.  I've painted this previously in a larger format, but have always wanted to paint it again. SOLD

Sunday, 9 October 2011

Don't Eat The Daisies

Daisies are such carefree flowers.  I've got scads in the yard because they seem to pop up everywhere.

Remembering Autumn

I took a lot of sunflower pictures in Saskatoon.  They were glorious against a blue sky.  SOLD

Tuesday, 13 September 2011

I'm off to Saskatoon for a couple of weeks.  My dad's celebrating his 91st birthday this weekend.  How cool is that?

Radical Red

Poppies are such cheery flowers, and definitely fun to paint.  SOLD

Halfmoon Bay Low Tide

Spent a lovely afternoon at Halfmoon Bay, and took a lot of pictures.  The tide was really low so I was able to walk out some distance on the sand and take some great shots. SOLD

These totems have such a history.  I'm excited about doing another painting.  SOLD.

All This Is Mine

Another favorite subject of mine - kids at the beach.  SOLD

Summertime

I love roses and have many in my garden.  I also have endless scratches on my arms and legs from the roses I love.  They can be very unforgiving.

Showstoppers

These lilies from my garden really are showstoppers, and their fragrance is  intoxicating.

Mom's Flowers

Couldn't resist taking a picture of this little girl, wearing her mom's shoes.
